What I Did For Kim Kardashian

A couple of years ago, I spent hours working for Kim Kardashian. Well, not for her, but for her eponymous perfume.

(Wait, did you think she actually wouldn’t have a fragrance with her name on it? I would be surprised if there’s an object in this world that doesn’t come Kardashian-branded.)

When I was in the Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing program at FIT, we were given an assignment to develop a marketing plan for Kim’s perfume. The project included creating ideas of where and how to sell it, along with developing ancillary products with the same scent (the fragranced lotions, shampoos, etc. that are sold along with the perfume in gift sets).

(In case you’re appalled at my choice of celebrity to market, consider the alternative - the other half of the class worked on ideas for 50 Cent’s cologne. Or shall I say, Fiddy Cent. If you don’t know who this is, you’re in fine shape.)

I, along with my ever-talented teammates came up with some really creative ideas.(shout out to: Lauren Feingold, Hollis Schwanz of Vessel Parfums and Kim Rizzo of fantastic nail art fame)

Here are the original products:

Our ideas for ancillary products - illustrated by yours truly! (notice how they’re modeled after the packaging on the original products - pretty, right?)

Shimmering powder with powder puff:

Moisturizing body lotion:

Although the fragrance company that produced the Kim Kardashian perfume loved our ideas, unfortunately these package designs never made it to store shelves.

What do you think about the designs of these ancillary products? Would you use them? Let me know in the comments!

Of course, if you would like to use this as a forum for some good ol’ fashion’ Kardashian bashin’, that’s fine too :)
